The camera calibration needs a seed of points to calculate the camera matrix and the the position of the central point of the camera, and the distortion matrices, if you want to use a chessboard you have to take in consideration its dimension(I never used the circles function because the detection of chessboard is easier ), the dimension of the chessboard should be pair X unpair number so you can get a correct rotation matrix!
